Welcome

Welcome to the artwork of Pat Gordon. You are here because some of Pat's art found you and brought you here. Welcome!

Patricia Marie (Hunter) Gordon was an artist who worked in whatever medium caught her fancy. The works here are chiefly paintings and paper collages, but she also worked in ceramics, found objects, preschool craft supplies, discarded bundles of wire, words, music, fabric, string, fallen leaves, dead mice and birds, and stones. And other things. Her artistic energy filled every aspect of her life, from the decorations in her home, to her wardrobe, to her view of all the life in the world around her. For Pat, art was everywhere and in all things.

Born in central California, she worked in Logan, Utah from 1970 to the early 2000s, then in Littleton, New Hampshire for about 5 years, then finally returned to Utah (Cedar City) until she passed away in 2020.

Pat was deeply religious, and her faith is reflected directly and indirectly in many of her works. But she wasn't strictly a Christian artist, and would likely have been uncomfortable with the label. She was simply, an artist, and a Christian, as well as a wife and mother, a sister and aunt, a friend and an ally, a coloratura soprano and a swing dancer.

At her passing, many works remained in her studio and in various storage locations. These are now being released gradually out into the world to find new homes. Pat's only wish for her work was that someone enjoy experiencing it as much as she had enjoyed creating it. If that is you - if you have one of Pat's works and it brings you joy - then you are lucky, and Pat is pleased.

Thrift stores

Pat was a life-long devotee of thrift stores, charity shops, and consignment shops. Many beautiful works were assembled from thrift store finds, and her home was a constantly shifting constellation of lovely, quirky objects. Because these stores brought her so much joy, and because she loved the ethics of them, many of her works are being donated to various stores throughout Utah. If you have one of the works shown on this site, it is likely that is how it came into your life. We think of it as releasing Pat's energy back into the cycle that brought her so much pleasure and fulfilment through her life.

Note: Pat often found unfinished canvases (such as paint-by-number kits) at these thrift stores which she would use as the basis of her own works. In that spirit, several unfinished canvases are among the works we are donating - If you have come into one of these, we invite you in Pat's spirit to take the canvas and make it your own.

Myeloma

Pat passed away in November of 2020 after an eleven-year confrontation with multiple myeloma. Through luck and grit and good medical care she beat the odds and nearly doubled the average time from diagnosis.

If you have acquired one of Pat's works and it is bringing you joy, then that is all we wish for you. If you feel moved to support a cause that reflects Pat's life and work, we invite you to consider donating to the International Myeloma Foundation. This organization was of great help to Pat and her family as we all lived through the disease process together. You can learn more at www.myeloma.org
